SUPERSEP™ – DF
The GWE SUPERSEP™-DF system is ideally suited to treat large volumes of water containing a relatively low concentration of solids. This clarifier is a special parallel-plate separator available in standardized sizes and separation modules. Its design has been optimized to remove well-settling solids and thus is not suited for biological sludge thickening.
The SUPERSEP™ – DF clarifier consists of a tank with a conical bottom, in which the clarifier modules are mounted in rows next to each other. These clarifier modules consist of A-shaped stainless steel lamellas, stacked upon each other, around central vertical effluent collector ducts.
The treated wastewater is collected at the apex of each A-shaped “hood”, where it is evacuated downward through the central duct and then sideways to the effluent outlet. Between the clarifier modules, the sludge flows from top to bottom, thereby gradually increasing in solids concentration as it settles.
The majority of the solids do not come into contact with the element surfaces, thus reducing the risk of clogging. Backwashing through the vertical collection duct is easily done, both automatically and manually, by the reversal of flow within one row of modules, or by flushing from the top with clean water, one module at a time. The backwash liquid ends up back in the tank holding the untreated wastewater. The sludge which settles to the tank bottom is periodically withdrawn for disposal or further processing.
Industries and applications: typically applied as solids removal in brewery wastewater, prior to treatment in advanced high-rate anaerobic systems.
